[Time to switch to that same high pitched shriek from earlier.]
Oh no, I think senpai just exposed my hypocrisy! But this is totally different from that! One was part of a thoroughly calculated plan, and the other's just rubbing it in because you can!
[Not that...she doesn't do the same thing, which she's entirely aware of.]
And hey, you're welcome for all that.
[And the overexcited freaking out disappeared just like that. Instead there's just this genuine appreciation for essentially being thanked. Sure, he didn't outright say it, but that's how she's decided to take it.]
[He gently strokes the side of her muzzle.] Sorry. Sorry. It's just...you've brushed across very precious memories. I feel like I should be telling you thank you over and over.
[It's terrifying. Yet, the blank look falls away. His soft smile is in place, he lightly taps his fingers on the floor.] Maki.
After the hope that has brought back into my life by her presence.
[The blue prints spread out on the worktable detail the work he intends to put into the wooden staff resting on the weapon stand. Komaeda runs his fingers down the notes he'd put on the pages two days ago. So far. So good.
Just as he raises his hand to start the casting, Hinata's thoughts brush over his. He pauses with the energy still whirling around his fingers but the news is something he didn't expect.
When Hinata opens the door Komaeda is sitting on the edge of his worktable by the kitchen, maps and books are stacked in neat piles on the wooden surface. Compared to the last time Owari saw him, Komaeda's older, with a healthier look to his body. As he nods and pushes off the table, muscle definition is obvious on his bare arms. The air lacks the hostility it used to possess when he was around, and even his politely neutral expression has no trace of disgust or scorn.] Good morning, Owari-san.
I assume Hajime filled you on me, but I don't blame you for distrust or a desire not to stay here because of my presence. If that's what you decide. Welcome to Verens anyway. Whatever questions you might have, I'm more than happy to answer. No matter what they are.
[ Owari's bee steeling herself for this moment, and when Hinata pushed the door open to reveal a much healthier Komaeda, she's-- well, stumped at first. It's like he's a completely different person altogether.
Still, it's best to be on guard anyway. Komaeda did exude a trusting vibe before the first murder in Jabberwock happened, and it's possible that he's pulling off the same thing again. So Owari crosses the threshold and just... stares at him from afar. ]
You... [ She's at a loss on what to say, really. And he doesn't look punchable, so that's out of the question too. Give her a sec. ] How'd you get so shredded?
[He blinks. That hasn't been a question he expected. He crosses his arms over his chest and considers how to word it.] By not being sick anymore and learning from a capable teacher.
I've lived in this city for three years. Trained with my teacher for two. I keep up with the exercises and spar with Hajime at least once a day. This is the kind of place where sometimes you have to fight to protect yourself or other people.
[ That's... definitely an interesting question that Owari asked, but it's not something that Hinata couldn't have predicted as he finds himself laughing just a little bit under his breath. ]
Yeah, out of all of our classmates, Nagito's probably been here the longest so he's the best person to go to when it comes to explaining things.
As far as we can tell for now, the way back is a mystery. This world has a mind of its own. It pulls people here in a bid to save itself. That's the most crediable theory at present.
...Actually it's getting closer to four years for me. I consider this world my home for however long I'm going to be here. [He gestures to the house about them. Books, scrolls, and maps litter the work desk he rests on the edge of.]

2/14; action.... i'll swap to my normal account after this
[ Hinata "making bad decisions" Hajime is going to visit Komaeda at the bookstore. . . as a girl. It helps that he utilized a bit of Dunamis and is wearing this - the hat covers his ahoge - but other than that? He's managed to make himself a rather perfect disguise that won't allow him to be easily recognized. He even made his eye color the same as his natural one as Hinata Hajime, so he's making it easy for Komaeda to guess but not too easy.
Hence why when he goes to the bookstore, she calls out: ]
Is there a Komaeda Nagito here? I have a special delivery for one Komaeda Nagito...!
[A tall, dark haired woman raises on thin eyebrow. In her middle age, she looks more like she's in her early twenties. She calls to the back and Komaeda Nagito emerges from the back room.] Here! Ah, sorry for the wait. I was in the back doing inventory.
[He nods respectfully to his boss as she trades places with him. He smiles brightly.] What sort of delivery do you have for me?
I'm not exactly certain, but it's a box...? [ The box itself is shaped like a heart and it's both red and pink. ] It doesn't have a name attached to it, but the person who gave it to me said that you'd know who it's from.
[Komaeda blinks. Both of his eyebrows raise. Then he smiles just a little, a light in his eyes.] I imagine I do know.
If it's who I think it is...there might not be a name attached but they know my preferences. Do I need to sign for it? [He produces a pen from his sleeve as if by magic. In reality he has a clip inside to keep from losing pens needlessly.]
[ Hinata smiles a little, almost tempted to chuckle but he refrains. He wonders just how long it will take for him to actually figure it out, however. ]
But would you like to open it first, or...? [ He kind of wants to see his reaction to it. ]
Oh. Yes! [Something about the wording and the eyes makes him pause. The color is the same as Hinata's eyes used to be. He shakes his head and gently takes the offered box. Setting it on the front desk, he feels around for the edges. The woman comes back out of the back room and starts going through a box of books.
'He doesn't seem to have sawdust in his head. He'll add cute to the list of reasons to keep him around.' She says while putting several copies of a math text book on the nearest shelf. Komaeda stops and looks up. 'I thought you said you liked them meek and a little bit dumb.' She snorts, as she crosses something off the list on a pad of paper.
'You'd be correct. You on the other hand. You fancy the closet tigers. Can't see the appeal...but he's a looker I'll give you that.' He decides not to answer that and opens the box.]
[ Hinata can't help but blink at Komaeda curiously, tilting his head to the side for a moment before he straightens himself out, not even a shift of his expression at those lines, because really?
Nevertheless, inside the box seems to be chocolate in all different shapes and sizes along with a card.
It shouldn't be too sweet, but it's kind of a Japanese tradition for the girl to give the chocolate on Valentine's Day, right? - Hinata Hajime ]
[He happened to look up and catch the girl's expression not changing at all. The gesture however. His own expression doesn't change as he picks up the note inside. Suddenly nothing matters but the words he's reading. He traces them with his fingers as the scent of the sea drifts through the used bookstore. His features have softened and his eyes are bright. Gently the way one takes a treasured gift, he folds the note twice.
It goes into his pants pocket. Komaeda sighs, content with the universe.] Did he say for you to wait for a note? ...and if you don't mind have we met before? You seem very familiar.
[The gesture. The lack of emotions at what would normally embarrass anyone else. Tessa, his boss tends to surprise people. She looks prim and proper. But he has never met someone more unphased by life and willing to deal with his sometimes too personal questions.]
Your phrasing is familiar. [He searches his memory but it doesn't show on his face as he gently places the lid back on the box. Tessa has went back into the back room. His sharp gaze settles on the messenger as he adds, thoughtfully.] There are other tells that aren't adding up.
Like that one. [It's like a flash of light in the dark. He can almost see exactly what he's after. The phrasing. The gestures. Even the eyes watching him right now. While the person is smaller than they should be... he leans forward.]
Hajime. I never thought you'd be bold enough to wear a dress but, here we are. I assume you'll be dressed in another way at lunch?
You could, I won't stop you. Anyway, you kept giving me hints. [He rests his chin against his palm and smiles wide.] I assume on purpose. You wanted to see my reaction...yes?
[He wants to say his name over and over until that flush never leaves his face.]
We're saving it? This place? [ a headtilt. ] Whoever's summoning us here, it sure is doin' a bang-up job choosing the right people for the job.
[ like yeah summon a bunch of highschooler who ruined the world just fucking do it ]
Does this mean we're kinda like in purgatory? Since Komaeda died and then stayed here for a couple years, then Hinata followed, and then somehow everyone is now alive back at our world, and...
[ ughhh she's so confused. help her put the pieces together? ]
